The Men’s Fashion Week Looks Tom Brady and More Super Bowl Players Should Wear – Vanity Fair
The New York men’s fashion shows were also held last week, and, of course, so was the Super Bowl—or, as the fashion industry refers to it, the Lady Gaga concert that also has a football game. What do football and fashion have to do with each other? Well, not a whole lot, Gisele and Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz being the exceptions (Vic has attended the men’s shows in Paris as contributing editor for Vanity Fair.)
People are often confused when they see certain looks and emerging trends at the ready-to-wear shows, and to be fair, a lot of them aren’t meant to be worn off the runway. A commercial version that is a little less aggressive is often also produced. For a bit of fun, let’s pair up some of this season’s more provocative looks with some of football’s most celebrated stars and see what happens.
Tom Brady is arguably the most dynamic player in the NFL and not hard on the eyes (his wife ain’t bad either). With Deflategate firmly behind him and an M.V.P.-worthy season, he has only one thorn left in his side. He has never beaten the NY GIANTS in the big game! (Do you think I am biased?) I thought this I ❤ NY sweater (Look 3) from Raf Simmons could help Tom keep the dream alive!
Matt Ryan finally rose to the ranks of elite quarterback this season. Fantasy football players all over the U.S. already have him at the top of their lists. I think this casual day look from Lazoschmidl (11) could be great for him for NFL Honors next year, or just date night. Throw on a black-leather jacket, and it’s the Falcons colors as well. How fun, no?
Rob Gronkowski is everyone’s favorite Goomba and beefy tight-end for the New England Patriots. I’d like to see Gronk in this referee-inspired look (21) from Alex Wang. I know it doesn’t show as much skin as he might like, but maybe we will get to see his serious side. On second thought, who wants that? I’m giving him Matt Ryan’s look as well.
Russell Wilson, the cool-as-ice QB from the Seattle Seahawks, also has a super hottie wife. I know he loves Ralph Lauren, so I thought this Santa Fe–inspired look (23) could help him get in touch with his inner cowboy. Giddy-up Rus.
Peyton Manning (yes, I am aware that he is retired) has two Super Bowl rings and is one of the best QB’s to play the game. He’s also the person in the NFL with the best sense of humor (after Bill Belichick that is). I like Rochambeau (Look 5) for Peyton. A simple silk shirt with a positive retirement message.
Next week the women’s shows begin, and I fly to Venice Beach with Gigi and Tommy, and will be sharing 10 certainties of women’s fashion week with you. Hint: politics will NOT be left aside.
