Then there is our new Prime Minister, who manages to talk Brexit with Angela Merkel while sporting a pair of her beloved leopard-print kitten heels. Or First Lady Michelle Obama, who gave an inspirational speech at the Democratic National Convention, while looking fashionably elegant in an azure blue dress and silver heels. 

These women actively encourage others to enter previously male-dominated environments, quashing the notion that to play with the big boys you need to dress like them. May, who told Kirsty Young on Desert Island Discs that she enjoys clothes, has also described a conversation with another female parliamentarian, commenting, “she said my shoes were the reason she became involved in politics”. If the leader of our fair country can think like that, perhaps the world can accept this as a feasible possibility. We have this summer’s heroes to prove it.
