NHS newspaper earns first-place rating in state – Norwalk Reflector
“The Trucker Imprint is a well-written student newspaper,” the judge’s overall comments said. “Each issue is well written, well researched, well planned and full of information. There is something for everyone.”
The 13 NHS students in the newspaper class traveled to Kent to attend the OSMA state convention on March 24, where the award was announced after a full afternoon of informative journalism workshop sessions.
“I am very proud of my students. They worked hard all year, and they truly deserve this award,” Debbie Leffler, newspaper adviser, said.
In addition to the overall first place rating, many students received individual honors for their work. A superior rating in the news photo category went to senior Adrianna Rodriguez for her photo of senior Jiselle Thomas signing her commitment to play basketball at High Point University. Senior Madeline Roche received an excellent rating for her editorial “students need their sleep” and another excellent rating for her feature story “sister pays tribute to brother.” Also receiving excellent ratings were senior Emily Smith for her news photo “breaking down the Berlin Wall”; senior Rilee Horowitz for his feature photo “robotics ready to compete”; and junior Alayna Warren for her infographic “By Golly, Be Jolly.”
