Hearst buys Connecticut newspapers from Freeman’s parent company – The Daily Freeman
Hearst Communications has purchased the Connecticut newspapers and news websites owned by 21st Century Media Newspaper LLC, the parent company of the Freeman.
The purchase includes three daily newspapers — the New Haven Register, Middletown Press and Register Citizen — as well as eight weekly newspapers, niche publications and Connecticut magazine.
The announcement was made by Hearst President and CEO Steven R. Swartz and Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The Connecticut properties, which have a combined weekly circulation of more than 470,000 households and a monthly digital reach of 1.4 million unique visitors, will become part of Hearst Newspapers’ Connecticut Media Group.
Hearst also owns the Times Union in Albany.
21st Century Media Newspaper LLC, part of Digital First Media, owns four newspapers in New York state: the Freeman, The Record in Troy, The Saratogian in Saratoga Springs and the Oneida Daily Dispatch near Syracuse.
