Multi-talented actress Zendaya is no stranger to hustling.
From acting and producing, to being a platinum-selling recording artist and entrepreneur, Zendaya is quickly becoming one of the next generation’s most influential artists and coolest “It” girls on the red carpet.
AOL chatted with the beautiful singer about her upcoming projects and on-trend fashion line, DAYA by Zendaya.
“I wanted to make something that felt expensive and felt good,” the singer said. “But also affordable because that’s important.”
Inspired by the streets of New York City and a crew of multicultural trendsetters, the actress stressed the importance of her gender-neutral pieces and made clear she doesn’t want her pieces to be labeled as “girl or boy clothes.”
“Wear whatever you want,” Zendaya said. “I’m just going to make [the clothes] and you just decide what you feel comfortable in — that’s what you should be in.”
Size inclusivity is another detail she wanted her line to reflect, keeping her sister mind while designing her clothes.
“I don’t think that people shouldn’t feel like they can’t get their size, because what’s the point of making clothes if you can’t get them?” the designer said. “I want to make clothes that look flattering on my older sister who is a lot thicker than I am — I think she should be just as fly.”
Before designing clothes, Zendaya started building her fashion empire with footwear — which she created with her stylist, Law Roach.
“It’s a lot of work, because it’s constantly being creative,” said the actress. “If it looks like the quality isn’t there, we don’t want it.”
Zendaya reveals that she constantly rocks her own shoes and clothes, strutting her latest copper-orange slip dress design on the 2017 Teen Choice Awards red carpet — did we mention that it only costs $38?
The actress is also moving into the technology realm with an app that will serve as a platform to engage with her fans and will be the exclusive mobile shopping experience for her clothing line.
