FASHION giants are citing socks and sandals as the hottest new trend of 2017 – but the internet is having none of it.
TheÂ controversial look was all the rage at Valentino’s Resort 2018 fashion show last week.
The growing movement prompted Topshop toÂ announce that “sock and sandals are back” in fashion in a blog posted on Friday.
But it seems the general public disagree, as these hilarious Twitter reactions prove.
Ryan Kautzman joked that socks and sandals are “the only birth control I’ll need” while Tori threatened to drop out of college after seeing a boy at college sporting the look.
Curve Wrecker labelled the look “a fashion crime” and Jakafi Barlow is temptedÂ to “start a petition to ban socks and sandals.
Socks and sandals have to be one of the most controversial outfit choices of our generation.
There’s even a Wikipedia page dedicated to the debate.
Hilariously, it reads: “Wearing socks and sandals together is a controversial fashion combination and social phenomenon that is discussed in various countries and cultures.
“It is sometimes considered a fashion faux pas.”
Feel free to rock the look if you wish, but beware – the popular opinion on socks and sandals is unlikely to change any time soon.
Which means it’s never really an acceptable outfit choice – unless you’re taking the bins out.
Even popstars like Justin Timberlake can’tÂ make the look work.
