Sears closing at Orlando Fashion Square, laying off 88 – Orlando Sentinel

Sears will close its Orlando Fashion Square store after more than five decades and lay off 88 workers at the department store, the company confirmed Tuesday.

The store, 3111 E. Colonial Drive, celebrated 50 years in business in 2013.

“The Sears Auto Center will close in mid-October and the store will close in mid-November,” said Sears spokesman Howard Riefs in an e-mail. “Until then, the store itself will continue to remain open and we will continue to serve our customers and members.”

The property’s landlord intends to tear down the property and replace it with an Orchard Supply Hardware store and Floor & Decor, according to Seritage Growth Partners. There will also be space for small shops and restaurants.
