A model at last year’s fashion week
Uganda’s biggest fashion showcase, Kampala Fashion Week is back. The highly anticipated event on Kampala’s social calendar slated to begin on September 29, will be held at the Kampala Forest Resort on Muyenga Hill.
The edition will feature an elaborate selection of 12 African designer collections including fashion designers, jewelry and embroidery and a combination of both emerging and established fashion designers.
The inclusion of the pop-up shop last year saw local and regional designers given an opportunity to market and sell their products to the fashion community that was in attendance. This year, the pop-up shop will be open for six days from September 25, and will have more affordably priced products from 12 designers.
Designers on the line-up include Say-Manda, Cirra-Sue, Bayimba Capsule Collection, Halisi, NFKA, Kas Wear, Eguana Kampala and Thandi, Kahvarah, Katungulu Mwenda, Catherine & Sons, Gloria Wavamunno & Helena and Nadrey Laurent.
The fashion week has since attracted the interest of the international fashion community, with a number of fashion editors, talent scouts and fashion enthusiasts flying into the country to attend the annual event to scout for new talent and unique design.
The event this year attracted even more talented designer applicants and models to participate in casting, indicating that the event’s vision of growth in the fashion industry has become a reality.
This year’s fashion week has been themed “Community” and will see the event embedded into community through the selection of this year’s venue, the Kampala Forest Resort that provides a scenic view of the beauty of Kampala city and immersion into nature.
Kampala Fashion Week’s main sponsor Uganda Waragi is putting together a vibrant after party on both days after the fashion showcase. To deliver a fresh experience, this year’s after party dubbed the “Taboo Lounge” which will feature performances by a DJ set list of emerging and established local and regional DJ’s.
