Nine models walked the runway for the Ridgecrest International Community Day Fashion Show “When Fashion Meets Nature: Flora, Fauna &Fashion” at the banquet hall at the Clarion Inn Saturday. Stephanie Baken, Yvonne Gill, Shaina Hansen, Sadie Nutter, Ivanna Rawson, James Long, Willan Coffie, Tyler Keith and Jose Pena modeled fashions from Botany’s Desire, Marshalls, K-Mart, Kool Threadz and Fashion Stop and Shoes.

Hansen did double duty. In addition to modeling in the show she is also the International Community Day Queen for 2017, crowned at the committee’s Mardi Gras celebration earlier this year.

Emcee Matthew Alexander joked about starting a tradition of holding Ridgecrest Fashion Week every year. Alexander kept the audience entertained with jokes and a running trivia game going between “Team Yves Saint Laurent” and “Team Prada” on opposite sides of the room. Team Prada won, but barely. Music was provided by Soundwaves, and attendees noshed on delicious “light” hors d’oeuvres. Judging by the smiles and laughter from the crowd, everyone seemed to have a great time.

In keeping with the event’s themes, fashions had a Spring/Summer emphasis and tables were decorated with plant centerpieces from Indigenous. Indigenous and Botany’s Desire owner Sandra Thebaud served as fashion director for the show, assisting producer Yolanda Alexander. The two joined the models for a final curtain call at the end of the show.

All proceeds will benefit the second annual International Community Day Sept. 15, 2017. For video and more photos of the fashion show, visit www.ridgecrestca.com
