She was followed by Brooke Shields, who presented the sustainability award to Manny Chirico, the chairman of PVH Corporation, the fashion conglomerate that owns Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger. âHeâs my new crush,â Ms. Shields said. âTall, dark and handsome. I was told I could say that.â
Other notable pairings included Joseph Altuzarra and Barneys New Yorkâs fashion director Marina Larroudé, who presented Mr. Altuzarra with the designer of the year award, and Robert Verdi and Ms. Longoria, who was given the style ambassador award. Katy Perry, who was supposed to present the business visionary award to Jason Rabin of Global Brands Group, pulled out at the last minute.
Over the course of the three-hour dinner, which included an arugula salad and branzino, attendees compared their minaudières, necklaces and other shiny accessories. Should anyone have felt underdressed, the bedazzled napkins rings, courtesy of Swarovski, could have doubled as makeshift bracelets.
Darcy Penick, the chief executive of Shopbop, who accepted the award for retailer of the year, went without jewelry for the occasion. âWell, Iâve got a lot going on here. Itâs a marriage of a disco ball and tinsel,â said Ms. Penick, referring to her sparkly jumpsuit by Temperley London and velvet heels by Aquazzura. âI think that accessories have the power to make an entire outfit and make a woman feel really good walking out the door.â
Ms. Longoria would agree, though maybe not exactly in the way the fashion trade group might hope. âWait,â she said onstage. âDo Spanx count as an accessory?â
