The Volunteer and Information Center is hosting its annual “Clothing for Confidence” project.

The VIC partners with the Henderson County School Family Resource and Youth Service Centers each year to identify students in need of back-to-school clothing. Last year, supporters and volunteers provided donations and new clothes for 144 children in Henderson County.

“The goal of this program is to help children perform better in school and get better grades,” said VIC Executive Director Susan Sauls. “We know that when children have feelings of self-worth, feel good about themselves and display self-confidence on that first day of school, they perform better and get better grades which will lead to a brighter future.”

To improve the program, the organizers are making sure all children are equally provided for.

The cost to clothe a child is $75. That includes a pair of slacks, a pair of shorts, two shirts, undergarments, and socks.

Donors and supporters can make tax-deductible donations to the Volunteer and Information Center. VIC will then purchase the clothing from a single vendor and the Family Resource Center directors will distribute the clothing to the children before the start of school.
